When a person says a DVD player is "locked," the person is usually describing a situation at any stage of disc play--after disc insertion, during playback or after playback--in which the player refuses to play the disc or a disc feature, or it won't eject the disc. The Samsung DVD-1080P8 DVD Player will "lock" if the disc is inserted incorrectly, is dirty or damaged, is incompatible with the unit, or doesn't support certain features. Additionally, it will lock if the disc is rated at a level higher than a parental-control lock setting or when the player malfunctions.

- 4-digit parental control password
Push the "Open/Close" button on the front of your Samsung DVD-1080P8 DVD Player if it won't play the disc--the screen is blocked or completely blank, the disc menu won't come up, or a circle with a diagonal line running through it appears on the screen.
Check that you inserted the disc correctly with the label facing up. If you've inserted it correctly, remove the disc and check that you haven't accidentally inserted two discs stacked together. Also check that the disc isn't dirty or damaged; clean or repair it as necessary.
Insert the disc, close the disc tray, and try to play it again. If the disc won't play at all, check that the region code on the disc case matches the region code labelling on the back of your player, and play a different disc if it's incompatible. If certain features won't play, such as changing scene-view angles, your disc likely doesn't support the feature.
Enter your 4-digit parental control ratings level lock password when the password screen appears. If the unit won't accept your password, try the "0000" --the factory default password.
Eject the disc if the default password doesn't work, and set it aside.
Push the "Menu" button on your remote to open the main menu. Scroll down to "Setup" on the menu, using the "Down Arrow" button. Push the "Right Arrow" or "Enter" button to open the Setup menu.
Repeat the same remote command button process to highlight and select "Parental Setup" on the Setup menu, followed by "Rating Level" on the Parental Setup menu. Push the "Down Arrow" button to highlight "Level 8" --the highest rating level--and then push the "Right Arrow" or "Enter" button to save your selection. Push "Menu" again to return to the main screen.
Insert your disc and watch it. If the password screen still appears and won't accept your password, eject the disc again and push the "Skip (>>|)/Search" button on the front panel of your unit for five seconds to reset the unit to the default factory settings.
Reinsert the disc. If the password screen comes up, enter the factory "0000" password.
Tips and warnings
- If a clean, undamaged compatible disc won't play, the password screen won't disappear, the buttons on the front panel don't work, or the disc won't eject from the player, unplug it from the electrical socket. Count out 30 seconds aloud. Plug the unit back in and attempt disc play, button use or disc removal.
- If rebooting the player doesn't correct the problem, call Samsung at 800-726-7864 for technical assistance.
