How to Assemble a John Deere Bagger

John Deere manufactures bagger or catcher attachments for their mowing products as a tool to capture grass clippings. The bags themsleves are made of a lightweight but rugged cloth material and are mounted on the rear of the mower tractor units. The bagger attachments, which come in various sizes, are designed for rapid assembly in steps and for easy removal and emptying after each use.

    Install Bagger Support Rod

    Slide the tabs on the cargo mount bracket into the slots on the mounting post at the rear of the unit.

    Insert the support rod for the bagger between the cargo mounting bracket and the mounting post.

    Thread the round head bolt through hole on the cargo mount bracket and the hole in the mounting post until they are flush.

    Tighten the bolt with a flat washer and the locking nut.

    Install Hopper Top and Bags

    Install the mounting post on the mower. Slide the lower part of the latch rod through the hole in the mounting post.

    Connect the upper portion of the latch rod to the post hole with a hex bolt and flat washer. Secure with a locking nut.

    Attach the hopper top to the mounting post with two hex bolts, four spring washers and two locking nuts.

    Test the movement of the hopper top by raising and lowering the lid, tightening or loosening the hinge until the movement is smooth.

    Install Hopper Screen

    Connect the hopper screen to the inside top of the hopper using the three tie bands.

    Slide the bands through the slots in the interior hopper screen and the holes in the hopper top lid.

    Pull the bands tight and cut off the excess banding.

    Install and Adjust Grass Bags

  1. 1

    Attach the grass bags to the mounting post, ensuring that they are level.

  2. 2

    Level the bags front to back by bending Tab B as needed.

  3. 3

    Adjust the bags for side-to-side level by manipulating Tab C as needed.

Tips and warnings

  • Always park the mower on a firm, level surface before assembling and installing the bagger unit so that it rests level on the machine.
