Having files and small applications on a floppy disk may be convenient for you. Because floppy drives are no longer commonplace, transferring floppy disk contents onto data CDs makes the files more accessible to other users and devices. While burning a floppy disk's contents to a CD does not inherently require more than the use of your favourite disc writer utility, you may need to implement disk imaging software to transfer a bootable disk.

Instructions

  1. 1

Create and name the folder into which you will copy all of the floppy disk's contents. You can put this folder on your desktop. Doing so helps organise the floppy's files and may be necessary if there are many.

  2. 2

Insert the floppy disk into its drive.

  3. 3

    Open the floppy disk's directory.

  4. 4

Drag and drop the entire contents of the floppy's directory into the created folder.

  5. 5

    Launch your CD writer utility.

  6. 6

Insert a blank writable CD into your computer's CD writer drive.

  7. 7

Add the newly created folder to your CD writer utility's burn list.

  8. 8

Click "Burn Disc" to complete the floppy disk's transfer to CD.

  1. 1

Insert the floppy disk into its drive.

  2. 2

Start your disk imaging utility. Try Magic ISO, Acronis True Image or ImgBurn if you do not already have one in mind. Mac owners need only launch the Disk Utility from the Applications directory.

  3. 3

Select the bootable floppy as the image source.

  4. 4

Select a destination folder on your computer for the output ISO or DMG file.

  5. 5

Click "Create Image" or "Burn Image." Doing so preserves the entire contents of the floppy disk completely unchanged, so that it operates its original function when accessed.

  6. 6

    Launch your CD writer utility.

  7. 7

Insert a blank writable CD into the CD writer drive.

  8. 8

Add the disk image to your utility's burn list.

  9. 9

Click "Burn Disc" to complete the floppy disk's transfer to CD.
