You hear system beeps when you get an error message or any kind of warning message. To turn of the beeps on your Dell laptop you must make a small change to the Windows Registry. Be sure to back up the Windows Registry before you make any changes to it.

Back up the registry. Click "Start" and type "regedit" in the Search field. The registry editor will open. On the left side click the "+" sign next to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER." Click the "+" sign next to "Control Panel." Go to the bottom of the list and click once on "Sound."
Click on "Beep" on the right side of the screen and an "Edit String" window will open. Enter "No" in the value data field and click "OK." Close out of Windows Registry by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner.
Click on "Start," the arrow next to "Shutdown" and select "Restart."
