How to Donate Baby Clothes

Updated March 23, 2017

Donating baby clothes is a great way to free up space in your child's closet and help a family in need. Many charities use the money from the sale of clothes to fund programs and services. Therefore, your donation really goes a long way. Although all clothes are accepted, clothes that are heavily soiled and damaged should not be included in the batch of donated items. Sort through your baby's clothes before donating them.

Sort through your child's closet and separate the items into different piles. Make a pile for trousers, shorts, shirts and other items as needed.

Count the items in each pile and record the information in a notebook. In addition, take pictures of the clothes for tax purposes.

Put the clothes into separate garbage bags. Each bag should be labelled with the name of the clothing that is inside.

Contact your local charity to schedule a time to drop off the donated baby's clothes or arrange a time for the charity to pick up the items.

Complete the necessary paperwork presented by the charity. The charity will issue you a receipt. This receipt serves as your proof of donation. Retain this receipt for tax purposes.
