Build your own custom gun case at home with supplies and tools from your local hardware store. Gun cases are ideal for storing guns, not only to protect the gun, but to protect others, especially children, from the gun. Design and personalise the homemade gun case to suit the gun's style. A wooden gun case is strong, protective and can be painted and designed to make the case truly personal.

Things you need
- Tape measure
- 3/4 inch plywood sheets/pieces
- Combination or key lock
- Lock hinges
- Hinges for the lid
- Wood glue
Measure the size of the gun. Consider any supplies that need to be stored within the case as well when measuring.
Write down the length, width and height of the case as determined in the previous step. Draw the pieces required to build the case on the plywood sheet using a pencil. You need two side pieces measuring the height and depth, and two pieces measuring the height and length plus an extra 1 1/2 inches.
Cut the four pieces out with a saw, and sandpaper the edges and surfaces smooth to avoid cracks and splinters. Place the four pieces on their sides and create a rectangular shape. The sides' pieces should face one another and the other two pieces should create the front and back of the case. The ends of the side pieces should be inside the other two pieces, hence the extra 1 1/2 inch length.
Create a rectangular box by attaching the four pieces to one another using the hammer and nails. Use the shape created in the previous step as your guide. When done, place the rectangular frame down on the table. Measure the frame's perimeter and write the measurements down.
Draw two rectangular pieces on the plywood with a pencil using the measurements collected in the previous step. This comprises the bottom and the lid for the case. Cut the pieces out with the saw and sandpaper them.
Place the bottom piece on the frame and line it up with all four sides. Attach it using the hammer and nails. Flip the case right-side up when done.
Place the lid piece on a flat surface, and place the lid hinges on the length-side of the piece. Attach the hinges with screws and the screwdriver. Line the lid piece up to the case, so the hinges are on the inside of the case. Attach the opposite end of the hinges to the inside of the case with screws and a screwdriver.
Close the lid and turn the case, so the front is facing you. Depending on the model, the installation process may differ. Attach the lock hinges for the gun case using screws and a screwdriver. One end of the hinge should be on the lid and the other on the front piece of wood.
Open the case and use the measuring tape to measure the inside of the case. Include measurements for all of the sides, except the lid. Cut out foam pieces for each of the sides using the measurements. Cut two pieces using the bottom of the case's measurements.
Add wood glue to each of the foam pieces and add them to their respective pieces. Press on the foam to secure it and let the glue dry. Press the foam down in the corners when installing the pieces. Install one of the bottom foam pieces to the bottom and the other to the lid of the case. When the glue has dried, you can add the gun into your custom case.
