The Nokia 7500, also known as the Prism, is a uniquely stylish phone with a laundry list of features, including an MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity and a 2 megapixel camera. If you're happy with this phone, but would prefer to use a different service provider, unlocking it is the best solution. There are dozens of sites online that offer to unlock your phone for a price, but many times---depending on your service provider's policy---you're able to unlock it for free.
- Skill level:
Get your IMEI code by typing "*#06#" into the keypad at the home screen. Write down the 15-digit number that's displayed.
Call your service provider's tech support and request an unlock code. If they ask why, you can tell them that you're travelling overseas, or that you plan to sell your phone. Be ready to give the customer representative your phone, e-mail address and IMEI number. The unlock code should be sent to your e-mail address within 24 hours.
Turn your phone off and remove its SIM card and turn it back on.
Type "#pw+unlock code+1#" (with "unlock code" representing the code you received from your service provider). You get the "+" symbol by pressing the "" button twice. You get the letter "p" by pressing the "" button three times. You get the letter "w" by pressing the "*" button four times. After entering the unlock code, a message will appear on your screen that says "SIM Restriction Off."
Tips and warnings
- The Nokia 7500 only allows only three attempts to unlock it. If you enter an unlock code and it is unsuccessful, contact your service provider's tech support before attempting to unlock it again.
