How to register a PS3 console

If you recently purchased a PS3 console, you can register your console online. If you register your console, you may receive demo games to test and monthly newsletters with news about the latest PlayStation games and products. You must have a PlayStation Network account to complete your PS3 registration.

Instructions

    Look at the back of your PS3 console and find the barcode. The barcode should be located over the vent on the left side. After you locate the barcode, write down the barcode number on a sheet of paper. You need this number to register your console.

    Go to the PS3 website. You can view specifications about the PS3 console or register your console here.

    Scroll to the bottom of the page and under the "Support" section, click "Register Your Product." The "Product Registration" page will open. You can register your console and games here.

    Look to the "Hardware" section of the Product Registration page and locate the PS3 console. It is the first item in the Hardware section.

    Enter the barcode number in the form next to "Barcode #" and then enter the month and year you purchased the console in the form next to "Purchase Date."

    Click "Continue." You will be asked to answer questions about what you plan to do with your console and the type of TV you plan to use with your console on the next page.

    Check the box next to the top three reasons you plan to use your PS3. For example, you may check the box next to "Game Console" or "Blu-ray Disc Player."

    Read the question about the type of TV you plan to use with your PS3 and check the box next to the TV option that describes you. For example, you may check the box that indicates you are not interested in an HDTV. Click "Continue."

    Enter your sign-in information for the PlayStation Network and click "Sign In." If you don't have a PlayStation Network account, see the next section.

    Review your account information and click "Confirm" to finish registering your console.

    Click "I want to create an account" to continue registering your console if you don't already have a PlayStation Network account.

    Read the privacy information and click "Continue."

    Enter your country, language and birth date. Click "Continue."

    Click "Master" when you are asked which type of account you want to create and then read the terms of service and click "Accept."

    Enter the letters and numbers from the security image and click "Continue."

    Enter the sign-in information for your account, including your e-mail address, name and password. PlayStation will send an e-mail to the email address you listed to verify your address.

    Log in to your e-mail account and open the email from PlayStation and click the verification link to verify your e-mail address. A new window will open with a message that your address was verified. Click "Continue."

    Create an online ID to use when you log in to the PlayStation Network. The ID can be a nickname but should not be the same as your e-mail address.

    Enter your personal information, including your name, gender and mailing address. Click "Continue."

    Select your notification preferences. If you want to receive e-mails from PlayStation about new products or promotions, check the box next to the notifications you want to receive. Don't check any boxes if you want to opt of out receiving information about new products and promotions. Click "Continue."

    Review your account information and click "Confirm." Your registration is complete.
