The Agere Systems HDA Modem is a 56K modem often included in older laptops as a backup to the more common Ethernet card. Of course, because 56K modems are rarely--if ever--used anymore, there is typically no reason to have the software that enables this modem on your computer anymore. Uninstalling the Agere Systems HDA modem from your computer can be accomplished through the Device Manager in Windows.

    Open the "Start" menu and select the "Control Panel" option.

    Click the "System" option, followed by "Device Manager" to open a window containing all the hardware and peripherals that are installed on your computer.

    Click on the "Modems" entry to expand the list of modems installed on your computer.
