Maintaining the fuel delivery system on your Honda is essential to its optimal performance. The delivery system is made up of the tank, pump, filter, fuel lines and fuel injectors. If you plan on replacing your fuel injectors or simply cleaning them, you need to know how to remove the Honda fuel injectors without damaging them or spraying fuel over the engine. Honda's engine and fuel design make this process easy, no matter what make or model Honda you have. As long as you know the right steps to do it, you can remove Honda fuel injectors in under an hour.

Park your Honda on a level surface. Engage the parking brake and open the bonnet to the engine.

Depressurise the fuel line. Remove the fill cap for your gas tank. Place a glass jar under your fuel filter (located under the car near the passenger side rear wheel). Loosen the hose clamp on the hose coming from the fuel filter and going to the engine with a flat head screwdriver. Make sure the glass jar is beneath where the hose connects to the filter and pull the hose off the filter, allowing any remaining gas in the line to spill into the jar. Press your accelerator to the floor three times to completely depressurise the system.

  • Depressurise the fuel line.
  • Loosen the hose clamp on the hose coming from the fuel filter and going to the engine with a flat head screwdriver.

Trace the fuel line to where it connects to the fuel rail of the injectors. Honda fuel injectors are mounted in a rail system. Use an open box wrench to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail by turning the fitting counterclockwise and pulling it free. Some Hondas use a typical hose clamp connection rather than a fitting to join the line to the rail; in this case, use your flat head screwdriver to loosen the screw on the clamp and pull the hose off.

Remove the two bolts holding the rail in place. There is one bolt at either end of the fuel rail. Turn the bolt counterclockwise with a socket wrench until you can pull it from the bolt hole. Lift the fuel rail from the engine.

Remove the Honda fuel injector heads using a box wrench. Turn the locknut of the pressure fitting counterclockwise to loosen it and then unscrew it the rest of the way by hand.

TIP

Hold the fuel rail so the fuel injector you are going to remove is over your glass jar and then unscrew the fitting. This way, any fuel remaining in the injector head will spill into the jar and not on you or the engine.

WARNING

Use care, when removing Honda fuel injectors, to make sure no debris or oil is introduced into the system or gets on the threads of the fitting. Like any hydraulic fitting, oil or debris will prevent it from making a proper seal, and your injector system will leak and be damaged beyond repair if it is reassembled and used with a dirty fitting.
