Park your car in an area with an unobstructed view of the sky. You will need to receive the satellite's signal before connecting your radio.
Tune your radio to channel 0. This will display the radio's SID/ESN number. Write this down.
Call Sirius at 1-888-539-SIRUS. You will be prompted to enter the numbers you recorded to connect you to the "activate a radio" department.
Choose a plan. Depending on your radio, you will have several choices. Some radios can only receive Sirius stations, while many produced after 2009 can receive both XM and Sirius stations.
Provide credit card information for billing. Once you've chosen your subscription and your credit card is accepted, your radio will be unlocked and you will be able to listen to any Sirius channel included in your plan.
