Erasing the information stored on your GPT protected partition through a system format might seem difficult, as the protection prevents you from executing a traditional format. Circumvent this problem by first removing the GPT protection from the partition prior to your formatting efforts, allowing you to clean the drive in preparation for your desired use.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Click "Start," type "cmd" in the "Search" box and right-click "cmd."

  2. 2

    Click "Run as administrator."

  3. 3

    Type "diskpart" and press "Enter."

  4. 4

Type "list disk" and press "Enter."

  5. 5

Type "select disk x," replacing "x" with the number of your GPT protected partition. Press "Enter." Type "clean" and press "Enter" to clean the volume.
