The Garmin 45XL is a global positioning system (GPS) unit that is designed for marine navigation. The Garmin 45XL provides information on positioning, altitude and movement speed, and provides information on navigating to any marine location. Updating your Garmin 45XL is a simple process. All you need to do is download Garmin's WebUpdater program onto your computer, plug your 45XL unit into the computer, and specify the upgrades that you would like to install. The WebUpdater program will handle all necessary downloads and installation.

    Plug your Garmin 45XL into your computer's USB port using the USB cord that came with your GPS unit.

    Open a web browser and direct it to the Garmin WebUpdater download website. Choose the link to the version of the WebUpdater program that will work on your operating system and then click the Download button to view the terms of use for the program.

    Read Garmin's terms of use. Click on the link that says "I agree to the above terms and want to proceed to the download page." Click on the Download link on the next page to download the WebUpdated installation program.

    Locate the downloaded installation program on your hard drive and double-click on it. This will start an installation wizard program that will install the WebUpdater program onto your hard drive.

    Run the WebUpdater program. The program will detect that a Garmin 45 XL is plugged into your computer and will search for updates to the 45 XL's software. Once you select the updates that you'd like to install, the WebUpdater program will automatically download the update files and will transfer and install the updates onto your GPS unit.
