In 2007, ASUS led the netbook charge with the release of its Eee PC line. The Eee PCs were lightweight laptops designed for Web surfing and word-processing applications. Like any laptop, certain components will need to be replaced over time, so it is a good idea to understand how to completely disassemble your Eee PC should you ever need to give it an overhaul. The steps to disassemble an Eee PC 701 should be similar for all Eee models.

Disconnect the power cable from your Eee PC netbook. Lay the netbook facedown on a table and remove the battery by sliding the release switch to the unlock position and pulling out the battery from the battery bay. Remove the warranty sticker in the centre of the netbook to reveal a screw that will have to be removed later.
Remove the two screws securing the memory cover, which is in the middle of the laptop base. Spread the latches on the side of the memory stick to pop the memory up. Slide the memory stick out of the socket.
Remove the screws along the edges of the laptop base. On the 701, there are six screws, though your Eee PC may have a different amount. Turn the netbook over and open the display panel as far as it will go.
Remove the keyboard. There are three locking tabs along the top of the keyboard. The tabs are visible above the function keys. Slide a small flathead screwdriver between the keys and the top keyboard bezel, and gently push the tabs toward the display panel until they release. Once you've unlocked all three, lift the keyboard and disconnect the cable from the motherboard. Remove the keyboard and set it aside.
Remove the nine screws holding the top cover in place. All nine screws are along the metal plate underneath the keyboard. Disconnect the touchpad cable from the motherboard. There is a hole in the metal plate just above the touchpad that gives you access to the cable and socket.
Use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pry off the top cover from the netbook base. Start just below the touchpad and work your way around the top cover. When you reach the display panel hinges, carefully pry the top cover loose from the hinges. Once the top cover is completely free, remove it and set it aside.
Disconnect the LCD cable running from the display panel to the motherboard. Disconnect the speaker, camera and fan cables in the upper left corner of the motherboard.
Carefully lift the front end of the motherboard, being careful to avoid getting it caught on anything. If the motherboard does get caught, carefully push out on the side of the netbook base until the motherboard clears whatever it is caught on. Lift the motherboard out of the base. Disconnect the wireless antenna cables from underneath the motherboard and remove the board.
