Extra maps can be downloaded to TomTom's GO 700 Global Positioning System (GPS) Satellite Navigation (Satnav) device. Problems with the maps download process can manifest itself in no maps being found on the device itself. Issues encountered can include problems resuming an interrupted map download and cryptic error messages like "Item was not valid after installation." Problems like these can be corrected by following some troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

  1. 1

Connect your TomTom GO 700 to your computer and launch the TomTom Home software application on the computer.

  2. 2

Click on "Update My Device" again if the map download was interrupted. Choose the map you were working with and click "Update and Install." The Home software will then continue downloading.

  3. 3

Try the download again if your get the error: "Item was not valid after installation." Click "Manage My Device" and then select the "Items on Computer" tab. Expand the Maps label and check the box next to the map you want to install. Click "Remove items from Computer." Then click "Update my Device." The download will start and install the map again.

  4. 4

Make sure that all the files are in the correct place if you get the error "No Maps Found" on completion of the download. Browse the content of the GO 700 with your computer by going to "My Computer" in XP or "Computer" in Vista and Windows 7. Verify that the map folder is in the root of the TomTom GO 700 or memory card. Root means top level--it can't be within another folder. Move the map folder to the root if it needs moving.

Tips and warnings

  • Don't delete maps to install newer versions of the same region when downloading a map. The TomTom GO 700 handles that.
