In 2009, the popular video streaming service Netflix announced they would be switching to using Microsoft Silverlight as the platform for their video player. Early versions of Silverlight would not disable a computer's screensaver automatically when playing video. Newer versions of Silverlight automatically disable and re-enable the screensaver. If you are still using an old version, however, you will need to manually disable it.

Right-click on your desktop and select "Personalise".
Click on "Screen Saver" to open the screen saver options.
Click on the drop-down menu in the screen saver options and select "(None)". Click "OK".
Tips and warnings
- To enable the screensaver again after you are done, simply repeat the process, selecting any screensaver from the drop-down menu instead of selecting "(None)".
