How to Convert a DWF to a DWG With Freeware
Both .dwf and .dwg files are used to store technical drawings. (compass on blueprint image by FrankU from Fotolia.com)

A .dwf file is an AutoCAD 2D or 3D drawing file that's distributed to other software applications. A .dwg file is another AutoCAD drawing format used with AutoCAD software. A .dwf file can be converted to the .dwg format using the appropriate freeware.

Instructions

  1. 1

Use AutoDWG (free trial, see the Resources section). This program has two versions: a stand-alone converter and an AutoCAD add-in. Each is available on a free trial basis, and each has similar functionality in converting a .dwf to .dwg. The stand-alone version can convert multiple .dwf files at once (batch conversion).

  2. 2

Try AnyDWG (free trial, see Resources). This application is a stand-alone program (AutoCAD is not required). It can convert .dwf to the .dwg and .dxf formats, and supports batch file conversion. This program recognises and converts all parts of the .dwf file, including layers.

  3. 3

Download DWF to DWG Converter (free trial, see Resources). This program also comes in two versions, a stand-alone program that doesn't require AutoCAD and an add-in that requires the user to have AutoCAD installed. This program recognises and converts all parts of the .dwf file, including layers.
