Whether it's not responding when you send a print job or presenting error codes, your Hewlett-Packard (HP) 4100 series printer doesn't always perform like it should. One way to solve problems, clear errors and flush the printer's memory is to perform a reset of the device. The reset procedure is built into the HP 4100s configuration and doesn't require any commands from your computer or access to your printer's driver. Once the reset procedure is complete, your HP 4100 is ready to accept print jobs.

Tips and warnings

  • Resetting your HP 4100 laser printer, using the procedure in the "Resetting HP 4100--Laser Printer Series" section, returns the printer to its "factory settings." If your printer contains an HP JetDirect card and is part of a computer network, use a flat head screwdriver to remove the JetDirect card from the back of your printer before performing the reset to keep your current configuration within the machine. Once the reset is complete, reinstall the JetDirect card and secure it with its two screws.
