Leaf shredders are used to turn leaves into mulch; mulch is used to provide nutrients for soil. There are different leaf shredders available; the electric leaf shredder is used in the home while the gasoline powered leaf shredder is used where large quantities of leaves require shredding. As a cheaper option, you can make your own leaf shredder.

A homemade leaf shredder can be made by modifying your lawnmower simply by replacing the blade with a mulch or leaf shredding blade.

Leaves work well as compost. They spread on the surface of soil around shrubs, trees, vegetable gardens and flower beds and provide a number of benefits such as protecting the soil's moisture, controlling weeds and grass, and suppressing soil erosion.

Instead of putting leaves into black bags and leaving them outside for rubbish disposal, why not recycle and reuse waste generated from the land? Not only will it help protect the environment, it reduces tax payer expenditure on waste removal.
