When you are watching videos with the Windows Media Player program you can adjust the settings of the video so that it appears on the screen the way you want it to. The video settings include contrast, hue and brightness options that you adjust using a slider tool. You also may need to reset the settings so that you can use the brightness slider to meet your preferences.

Open the Windows Media Player application on your computer and then click on the "Tools" option from the top toolbar menu.
Click on the "Options" button and then click on the "Performance" tab from the Options dialogue box that appears.
Click and drag the slider in the "Video acceleration" section to the "None" field. Click on the "Now Playing" option.
