ROMs are video game files taken from their original source and made to play on a different format such as a computer or the Nintendo Wii console. Emulators are applications needed to load ROMs, and the only way to install an emulator on the Wii is through the Homebrew Channel (see References.) Once the Homebrew is installed, you can upload ROMs for all types of emulators, such as NES, SNES, PS1, Dreamcast and Nintendo 64.

Load the Homebrew Browser through the Homebrew Channel. Make sure you have a SD card inserted into the Wii so the browser will load and install files properly.
Click on the "Update" link to download the newest emulator list on the Homebrew Browser.
Select the "Emulator" tab from the top of the screen. A list of emulators will load with the newest emulators appearing first. Click on various emulators using the Wii Remote to read brief descriptions about the emulator.
Click on the "Download" icon to download the emulator. The icon turns white and slowly turns red as the download proceeds. A green check mark appears when the download is done.
Exit the Homebrew Browser by pressing the "B" button on the Wii Remote. Select to either reboot the Wii or return to the Homebrew Channel.
Remove the SD card from the Wii and insert it into your computer
Download ROMs from various websites if you do not have them already. Popular ROM download websites include Cool ROMs, Dope ROMs and ROM Hustler. Download the zip files and keep them archived.
Go to "My Computer" and double-click on the SD card. Double-click on the folder labelled "Apps" and then double-click on the folder with the title of the emulator. Locate the "ROMs" folder within this folder and double-click it.
Drag and drop the downloaded ROM zip files into the "ROMs" folder. Wait for the transfer to finish before removing the SD card.
Insert the SD card into the Wii and load the emulator through the Homebrew Channel. Click on the "Load ROM" icon through the menu and select the ROMs from the SD card to play them.
