Solidworks is a 3D CAD (computer aided development) modelling tool that is widely used by many companies and industries to model shapes and assemblies of their various products. It is a step up (3D models) from the old AutoCAD 2D drawings. Solidworks can be used to create a wide variety of different shapes, textures to accurately represent a model/item. Solidworks also has a built-in tool that allows you to convert old AutoCAD 2D drawings to 3D Solidworks models.

Open the DWG file by clicking on the "Open" icon in the Solidworks window. Find your 2D drawing file and click "Open." The DXF-DWG Import Wizard will appear.
Select the "Import to New Part" Option on the DXF-DWG Import Wizard and click "Next." You'll see a preview of the 2D file in the next screen along with the list of different layers included in the document.
Select only the object lines that define the geometry from the list of different layers. Turn off as many layers as possible to clean up the drawing. Then click "Next." Leave the default settings on this screen and click "Finish."
Define the Front View by dragging the mouse and selecting the front view of the model from the 2D drawing. After making the selection, click the "Front View" icon on the 2D to 3D toolbar. Select the entities for the left view and click the "Left View" icon on the 2D to 3D toolbar. Select the entities for the top view and click the "Top View" icon on the 2D to 3D toolbar.
Select a line segment from the top view and control select the corresponding segment on the front view, and then click the "Align" icon on the 2D to 3D toolbar. Repeat the same with lines from the left view and the front view.
Right-click an entity on the front view and click the "Select Chain" command. Now click on the "Extrude" icon from the 2D to 3D toolbar and select the proper direction of extrusion, by selecting point that defines the depth of the extrusion. Click "OK" after ensuring the preview is correct. Repeat the process for all extruded holes and extrusions for your part. You have now converted a 2D autocad drawing to a 3D Solidworks model.
