How to Override the Ink Replacement in an HP Deskjet 3500

Your HP Deskjet 3500 may report its ink cartridges are empty long before they really are. Therefore, you might find it useful to override the ink replacement feature. Also, if you are refilling your cartridges the ink levels may not be accurate. In this case you can do the same thing. To override the ink replacement level feature, you must reinsert the ink cartridge a few times in different ways. This tricks your printer into believing you have inserted a brand new ink cartridge.

    Take the ink cartridge out of your printer.

    Place a piece of tape over the blue contacts of the ink cartridge. Make sure nothing else is covered. Replace the ink cartridge in the printer. Wait a moment while the printer adjusts.

    Remove the ink cartridge again. Move the piece of adhesive tape to cover the four red contacts. Insert it back into your printer and wait for it to adjust the cartridge.

    Remove the tape and insert the cartridge normally. The printer ink replacement level has been reset.
