Instructions

    Connecting using S-video

  1. 1

Obtain an S-video cable. S-video cables may not come with your Sony VAIO or your television, so you may have to purchase one at an electronics supply store.

  2. 2

Connect the S-video cable from the back of your Sony VAIO and connect the other end to the back of your Sharp LCD.

  3. 3

Start your television and see if the picture on your screen matches what's on your computer screen (you may have to turn to your TV's auxiliary channel). If you do not see a picture, press the "Function" button on your keyboard on the Sony VAIO plus "F8" or "F11" (whichever has "LCD/CRT" on the button).

    Connecting using VGA

  1. 1

If you have a high-definition TV, connecting a VGA cable will give you better quality than S-video. Purchase a connector that will connect the VGA to your Sharp. This cable will most likely come with your Sharp LCD. If not, you can purchase one from your local office supply or electronics store.

  2. 2

Connect the VGA cord from the back of your Sony VAIO to the back of your television.

  3. 3

Attempt to turn on the television to determine if the computer screen matches your televison. Press the "Function" button plus "F8" or "F11."

    Connecting using DVI

  1. 1

Use a DVI cable (digital visual interface) if you want an even better picture than an S-video or a VGA picture. However, the DVI cable costs approximately £26-$80, as of 2010. Make sure your Sony VAIO has a DVI connection.

  2. 2

Connect the DVI cable from the Sony VAIO to your LCD TV.

  3. 3

Turn on the television to determine if you see a picture. Press the "Function" key on your keyboard plus "F8" or "F11" on the Sony VAIO.

    Connect using HDMI

  1. 1

Connect your Sony VAIO to your LCD using an HDMI cable for optimal picture quality. Purchase a DVI-to-HDMI cable from your local electronics store.

  2. 2

Connect the converter cable to the back of your Sony VAIO and the other end of the cable to the back of your LCD television.

  3. 3

Press the "Function" button plus the "F8" or "F11" key if you do not see a picture on your Sharp LCD.

Tips and warnings

  • To have audio play on your television from the computer, you must purchase a 3.5mm mini stereo male to RCA male speaker cable from your local electronics store.
