A "backdoor master password" is a default password for a computer BIOS that never changes. This password can be used to gain access to your BIOS in the event that you cannot remember or have lost the custom password that you originally set. Once you enter the BIOS using this password you can then reset the unit back to its original factory settings to undo any errant changes you have made.

Skill level:

  1. 1

    Restart your Dell Latitude computer.

  2. 2

Strike the "F2" key to enter your Dell Latitude's BIOS.

  3. 3

Type "Dell" (without quotes) into the "BIOS Password" prompt and hit "Enter." This is the backdoor master password for your Dell Latitude BIOS. You will now be taken to the main BIOS screen.

  4. 4

Select "Restore Defaults" from the BIOS menu and hit "Enter." This will restore your BIOS back to its original settings.

  5. 5

Choose "Save Changes and Exit" from the menu. Hit "Enter." Your Dell Latitude BIOS settings have now been restored.
