How to Reformat a Toshiba Portable External Hard Drive into NTFS

Though the Windows operating system can read and write to drives formatted in the FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS file systems, for peak performance you should always format your drives in the NTFS file system, especially if you use newer versions of the Windows operating system, such as Windows 7. If you have a Toshiba portable external hard drive formatted in either FAT16 or FAT32, you can reformat it into NTFS using Windows Explorer.
