The “Check Engine” light on your Toyota Scion XB can come on for a variety of reasons. The light may turn on because your car is in need of regular maintenance such as an oil change, or it may be indicative of a more serious problem with the engine such as sensor failure or an abnormal sensor reading.

Instructions

  1. 1

Start the car. Press the odometer switch located to the left of the odometer display until the display indicates your “odometer” reading rather than the “trip” reading.

  2. 2

Turn the key to the “off” position.

  3. 3

Press down and hold the odometer switch. Do not release it until instructed.

  4. 4

Turn the key to the “on” position without starting the engine while keeping the odometer switch depressed.

  5. 5

Keep the switch pressed down until the “Check Engine” light turns off. Let go of the switch and return the key to the “off” position.

Tips and warnings

  • Remember that by resetting this light, you have not fixed the problem that caused it to turn on. Go to a mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
