Moustache wax is used by men with moustaches that require a little taming. Some types of moustaches, including the handlebar moustache, the pencil moustache and the Fu Manchu can become unruly if not covered with a coat of moustache wax. Instead of spending money on commercial products, a man can produce his own rub of moustache wax in a single afternoon. The wax can be used and stored for several months of use.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- 3 tsp grated beeswax
- Microwave safe bowl
- 1 tsp powered gum Arabic
- 1 tsp oil based hardwood floor cleaner
- Stainless steel bowl
- Stainless steel spatula
- Air tight container
- Stiff brush
Melt three tsp grated beeswax in a microwave safe bowl. Place the beeswax in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Check on the beeswax and continue to microwave it for 15 seconds increments until it is completely melted.
Pour one tsp powered gum Arabic, one tsp oil based hardwood floor cleaner, such as Murphy's Oil soap liquid, and two tsp water in a medium sized stainless steel bowl.
Hold the ingredients over a burner that is turned on medium heat and stir for approximately three minutes. Do not allow the bowl to become too hot to hold.
Add 2 tsp melted beeswax to the warm contents in the stainless steel bowl.
Mix the contents of the bowl with a stainless steel spatula until the desired consistency is reached. Add small amounts of water to the bowl if the consistency of the wax is too thick.
Spoon the moustache wax into a small, air tight container.
Place a small amount of the wax onto the moustache and work it through with a stiff brush. Use your fingers to shape the moustache into the desired shape.
