A DWG file is a drawing file used to store two-or-three-dimensional data, and it is frequently used for designing programs like AutoCAD. The XLS file is a spreadsheet file used in Microsoft Excel. If you need to import a graph or chart from Excel into AutoCAD, you can do this by converting the XLS into a PDF before finally converting it into a DWG file. This conversion is not typical, and there may be some data lost between the two versions.

Things you need
- XLS to PDF converter
- PDF to DWG converter
- AutoCAD or other design program
Download a program that converts XLS files to PDF. Two options are the XLS to PDF program by Software Informer and the Universal Document Converter program (see the Resource section). These instructions will be for the Universal Document Converter, but the procedure for both programs is very similar.
Open Microsoft Excel and the document you wish to convert. Click "File" and "Print," and then select "Universal Document Converter" from the drop-down menu. Click "Properties," "Load Settings" and then select "Worksheet to PDF.xml." Click "Open" and then click "OK" twice to begin the conversion. Your PDF document will open automatically.
Download the PDF to a DWG converter. Two options are the Any DWG and the Aide Cad programs (see Resource section). These instructions are for the Any DWG program, but the methods used for both programs are very similar.
Open the conversion program. Click "Add PDF Files" and select the converted PDF file. Click the "Convert" button to make your PDF into a DXF file.
Open AutoCAD or any other DWG program that you own. Click "File," "Open" and then select the DXF file from the conversion. DXF files are compatible to DWG files, so all you need to do is save the file as a DWG. Click "File," "Save" and then select "DWG" as the file type. Click "Save" to save your document as a DWG file.
