Based on the 2008 film, "The Incredible Hulk" for PC is a direct port of the version developed for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 consoles. Across forums and critical sources around the Web, a common complaint was the control configuration for the keyboard. With an external gamepad and a simple mapping utility, players can enjoy the game with more comfortable controls, similar to what one would experience while playing on a home console.

Plug in your gamepad and wait for the computer to recognise it.

Open X Padder and click the gamepad icon in the top left to open the File menu. Click "New..." to begin mapping a new controller configuration for your gamepad.

  • Based on the 2008 film, "The Incredible Hulk" for PC is a direct port of the version developed for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 2 consoles.
  • Open X Padder and click the gamepad icon in the top left to open the File menu.

Click "Open..." in the bottom toolbox and select the "Controller Images" folder. Browse this folder for the model of the gamepad you wish to use. If you cannot find the correct gamepad, close this window.

Click "Sticks" in the left toolbar and check the box marked "Enabled." Follow the on-screen prompt and move your joystick accordingly. If you have a second joystick, check the other "Enabled" box and move that joystick as well.

  • Click "Sticks" in the left toolbar and check the box marked "Enabled."

Click "D-Pad" in the left toolbar. Check the box marked "Enabled." Press the directions on your control pad according to the on-screen prompts.

Click "Buttons" in the left toolbar. Press each button on the gamepad. As you press one button, a new button will appear on the screen to indicate that the utility has recognised the gamepad.

Click "Triggers" in the left toolbar if your gamepad has triggers. Check the "Enabled" box and follow the on-screen prompts. The utility will now recognise the gamepad's triggers.

Click "OK" in the bottom right corner of the window to finish this configuration. A window with a layout of your buttons will appear. As you press a button on the gamepad or move a joystick, a button will light up inside the window.

Select the button with which you want to jump in the game. For most traditional configurations, the bottom button "X" or "A" is used. Press the button and note which button lights up within the X Padder window. Click that button and a keyboard will appear on the screen. Using your game manual as a reference, find the key that is normally used to jump. Click that key to map its function to a button on your controller.

  • Click "Triggers" in the left toolbar if your gamepad has triggers.
  • Click that key to map its function to a button on your controller.

Repeat Step 9 for all of the game's primary movement and action functions, as listed in the manual. For example, if your keyboard set-up utilises the "W," "S," "A" and "D" keys for movement, assign each of those keys to the correct directions on the controller's directional pad.

Connect the gamepad to your computer.

Open Control Panel and click "Printers and Other Hardware." Click "Game Controllers" and check the window to see if your computer has recognised the controller. If the name of your gamepad appears in the box, your computer has successfully recognised the gamepad.

  • Repeat Step 9 for all of the game's primary movement and action functions, as listed in the manual.
  • Click "Game Controllers" and check the window to see if your computer has recognised the controller.

Click "Properties" to access a display panel that shows the different buttons and functions of your controller. Keep this window open and use it as a reference when mapping with the JoyToKey application.

Double-click the joystick icon to launch JoyToKey. The window will display a few default controller setups. Click "Create" to assign a new configuration.

Select the button with which you want to jump in the game. For most traditional configurations, the bottom button "X" or "A" is used. Double-click the button to open a new window. Click the Keyboard tab and click the first box, marked "Disabled" by default. Using your game manual as a reference, locate the key that is normally used to jump. Press this key to assign it to your gamepad and click "OK."

  • Double-click the joystick icon to launch JoyToKey.
  • Press this key to assign it to your gamepad and click "OK."

Repeat Step 5 for all of the game's primary movement and action functions, as listed in the manual. When assigning any functions from your mouse, click the Mouse tab and follow the same instructions to assign a function to the gamepad.

TIP

Leave the mapping utility open while running the game. You can minimise the program, but do not exit or quit.
