- Fabric scissors
- Sewing machine
- 1/2-inch wide elastic
Cut out a piece of fabric that is 20 inches long and wide enough to wrap around the widest part of the torso, plus 1 inch.
Fold the fabric in half, bringing the 20-inch edges together with the right sides of the fabric facing each other.
Sew the 20-inch edges (opposite the fold) together, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. This will form a tube of fabric.
Fold over one of the open edges of the tube of fabric 1/2 an inch. Sew the fold down, tucking under the raw edge of the fabric as you sew. This will form the bottom of the shirt.
Fold over the top edge of the shirt 3/4 inch. Sew the fold down, tucking the raw edge of the fabric under the seam as you go. Leave a 1 inch opening in the seam.
Cut a piece of elastic that is just long enough to wrap around the chest, just above the bust. Thread this elastic piece through the top hem of the shirt, gathering the fabric as needed.
Sew the two ends of the elastic together and sew the opening in the hem closed.
