How to Make Windows Media Player Sort Library CDs by Year

With Windows Media Player, there is an option to sort the library CDs by year. You cannot save this, however. When you close Windows Media Player, it loses the settings. When you reopen it, you need to resort the list again. Microsoft set Windows Media Player like this to improve performance. Fortunately, it is not hard to sort and can be done in a few short steps.

    Open Windows Media Player.

    Right-click "Sorting Columns" at the top of the screen. Select "Choose Columns."

    Click the "Include Release Date in Default Sort Order" checkbox. The albums will be sorted from newest to oldest. You can click the "Album" column heading to resort from oldest to newest.
