Windows Media Player 11 is a version of Microsoft's native multimedia player and browser application distributed with Windows XP and Vista operating systems. The application features broad support for various media types, from high-compression MP3 audio to high resolution video. VOB, or Video Object, is a format for containing video and related media, such as audio and subtitles, in one file. It is one format for media on DVDs.

    Locate the ".vob" file you wish to play.

    Right click on the file and select "Open With."

    Select Windows Media Player 11 from the list of applications. If the files plays naturally on Windows Media Player 11, you do not need to do anything. Otherwise, Windows Media Player 11 will display and error message if it cannot play the ".vob" file.

    Open a Web browser application.

    Download a ".vob" codec or a package of video codecs including a ".vob" codec. and both offer a variety of different codecs for download. The K-Lite codec pack contains a variety of widely used video codecs and is available for free from Codec Guide.

    Download the latest version of the ".vob" codec or codec package.

    Install the ".vob" codec or codec package onto your computer by double clicking the downloaded file and following on-screen instructions.

    Restart the computer. The codec or codec pack should be automatically associated with Windows Media Player 11 when the computer restarts.
