Cloud Strife, the hero of "Final Fantasy VII," is identified by his yellow, spiky hair and his oversized Buster Sword. When you are creating your own Cloud costume for a cosplay event, do not neglect his armour, which in both the original game and movies is depicted as a shoulder piece attached to his standard sleeveless turtleneck with metallic arm bands to protect his wrists and forearms. Create your own armour for the costume and attend your next cosplay contest as Cloud Strife.

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut away any fabric that covers the front and sides of a round knee pad. Keep the straps that would secure the pad to your knee as this is how you will attach it to your shoulder.

  2. 2

Make several shallow cuts along the face of the knee pad to mimic the wear and tear Cloud displays on his shoulder armour.

  3. 3

Sand down the cuts to prevent any sharp pieces of plastic from protruding from the pad.

  4. 4

Glue three metal cylinder weights in a triangular pattern on the face of the pad. Space the weights apart by at least 2 inches. Allow the glue to dry.

  5. 5

Place the pad on several sheets of newspaper in a well-ventilated location. Spray the pad and weights with pewter-coloured spray paint. Use matt paint instead of glossy paint as Cloud does not have armour that shines in sunlight. Allow the pad to dry.

  6. 6

Sand around the pad to further degrade the look of the shoulder armour.

  7. 7

Glue four or five cylinder weights around a wide, metal bangle. Allow the glue to dry. Repeat with a second bangle.

  8. 8

Spray paint the bangles with the same pewter-coloured paint as the shoulder armour. Allow the paint to dry completely.

  9. 9

Attach the shoulder armour in place using the straps of the knee pad. Slide both metal bangles onto your left wrist to complete the armour for Cloud's costume.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not use the cylinders on the shoulder armour if you are replicating Cloud's look from the “Advent Children” movie.
  • Paint the tops of the weights on the bangles red, yellow, green or white to represent the materia, or magical components, that Cloud holds in the bangles. You can also glue small, coloured stones in place for the same effect.
