Photoshop is an effective tool for editing your photos and creating artistic effects. When you don't have a high-tech digital or 35mm camera, you won't be able to achieve some effects such as making the subject of your photo stand out. By blurring and adjusting the opacity of the background, you can achieve this effect that comes standard to professional-quality cameras without having to buy one.

Instructions

  1. 1

Decide what part of the image you want to keep in focus. Use the "Pen Tool" to select only the subject.

  2. 2

Go to the "Select" menu and choose "Inverse." This will select your background image only.

  3. 3

Go to "Effects" then choose "Gaussian Blur." Mark the "Preview" check box and adjust the blur effect to your liking.

  4. 4

Keep the background selected. Go to the "Layers" panel and choose the opacity drop-down menu. Adjust to your liking. Your subject will now be the focus of the image while the background is blurred and faded.
