  1. 1

Lay a piece of paper towel on the table where you will refill the ink cartridge. Do not allow the contacts on the bottom of the cartridge to touch the paper towel. Lay the cartridge on its side until you are ready to work with it.

  2. 2

Remove the contents of the refill kit. The kit has a thumb drill, one bottle of ink and one syringe.

  3. 3

Use the thumb drill to make the vent hole on the top side of the Lexmark cartridge larger to accommodate the syringe needle. Place the thumb drill on the hole and twist back and forth until the hole has been enlarged.

  4. 4

Insert the syringe needle into the black ink bottle. Draw out 10ml of ink by pulling up on the top of the syringe.

  5. 5

Inject the ink into the Lexmark 17 cartridge. Place the tip of the needle into the enlarged vent hole. Push the needle in as far as it will go without force. Press down on the top of the syringe to inject the ink slowly into the ink cartridge. If any ink bubbles come out of the hole, stop and wipe up the ink with the paper towel. Some cartridges will not take the full amount of ink if the cartridge was not empty.

  6. 6

Place the Lexmark 17 cartridge in the printer. Use any text document to run one to three test pages to cycle the ink.

Tips and warnings

  • Always fill the ink cartridge as soon as it runs empty to prevent the cartridge from drying up.
