How to Create a Proxy Chain
A proxy chain uses a series of proxies embedded within each other. (Russian doll image by Alison Bowden from

A proxy chain can be created by using multiple CGI Proxies. A CGI Proxy is a website which allows you to access another site through its Web Page. The address of the proxy is maintained in the window's address bar and all communication from your computer is carried out to the Proxy's address and not the viewed websites address. The Proxy communicates with the target Website from its address and all communication with the viewed Website is carried out from the proxy's address and not yours.

  1. 1

Find a CGI Proxy listing Website--there are three examples in the Resources section. Proxy Websites change their addresses frequently to avoid being put on the blacklist of the content filter which is being bypassed. For this reason they rarely appear in search results. Any that do are too old, and so they are no good.

  2. 2

Read through the lines in the list. Different directories give different levels of detail. It is better to find proxies which are located in your country-- unless it is a national content filter you are avoiding, in which case it is better to find out in another country. If you are trying to access a website which only works when accessed from a particular country, choose a proxy located in that country. It is better to choose very new proxies. Most lists are updated every fifteen minutes.

  3. 3

Decide how many proxies you want to have in the chain. Most proxy directories show the address of the CGI proxy as a link. If you want to use three proxies in your chain, not down the addresses of two and click on a third. When you click on the address of the proxy, that site will open in a new window.

  4. 4

Scroll through the advertising in the GCI proxy Website to find the address field. In this field enter the address of one of the other sites you noted down. This site will be shown in the first proxy site's window. The window will maintain the URL of the first site in the address bar, but the content of the window will be the second proxy site. Scroll through the adverts in this site to find the address field. Type in the address of the next proxy site you chose. The window will change to show the third site, while maintaining the address of the first site in the address bar. Repeat this process until all sites in your list have been accessed. When the last proxy you are using is shown, type in the address of the Website you want to view through the proxies. By this method you have created a proxy chain.
