Yahoo offers a free download for the Yahoo Toolbar, which works with your Internet Explorer or Firefox browser to simplify common web-browsing tasks. You can use the toolbar to get easy access to sports scores and financial information, for example, or to quickly alert friends and social contacts to interesting items on the web. The Yahoo Toolbar can be integrated with Anti-Spy, a free anti-spyware program, to help keep your computer safe from viruses, unwanted ads and other malware.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Download the Yahoo Toolbar if it is not already installed in your browser. Review the "Installation Options" presented in the download box, and select the options you want to include. For example, you can opt to include a Yahoo Toolbar for both Internet Explorer and Firefox if you use both browsers.

  2. 2

Close and reopen your browser to begin using the Yahoo Toolbar.

  3. 3

Click the Anti-Spy icon, shaped like a small shield, on the Yahoo Toolbar then click the Download button in the dialogue box that appears.

  4. 4

Follow the instructions to install Anti-Spy in your Yahoo Toolbar. You have to accept the terms of use and click "Yes" when your system asks if it is OK to install new software.

  5. 5

Close and reopen your browser once again and it will now include the Yahoo Toolbar with its antispyware program fully operational.

  6. 6

Click the Anti-Spy shield icon again to configure the options on your antispyware program, such as the frequency with which it scans your computer.
