How to Clean an Oilskin Duster

The proper care for an oilskin duster adds years to the life of the coat. An oilskin duster requires minimal cleaning, but the proper steps for cleaning and storing most be taken or the coat will require a major overhaul. Taking a few minutes to clean and store the coat after each wear will save time and money in the long run.

  • Soft cloth
  • Cold water
  • Re-proofing wax

Instructions

    Brush any spots of dirt from the oilskin duster with a soft-bristled clothing brush.

    Dampen a soft cloth with cold water and sponge away any remaining spots of dirt.

  3. 3

    Check the duster for dry patches. Apply re-proofing wax to the dry patches.

    Hang the duster in a dark place and allow it to dry completely. Roll the duster up and store it out of direct light until it is needed again
