How to Play the "Star Wars" Trilogy Arcade on My PC

Updated July 20, 2017

The "Star Wars Trilogy" arcade game made it possible for players to fight their way through all three original movies. Players could fly an X-Wing and battle Darth Vader. It was originally released in 1998 and like most games it became harder to find as new games came along. However, it is possible to play the game on a computer with the MAME32 arcade emulator. The MAME program acts as a system that will read the game's ROM file and allow it to be played.

Download the "Star Wars Trilogy" ROM file and the MAME32 program. Extract the MAME32 files to any desired folder. A series of subfolders will appear.

Place the "Star Wars Trilogy" ROM into the "ROMS" subfolder of the MAME folder. Open the MAME32 exe file and find the ROM. Right click the ROM and select "Properties."

Click "Audit" and press "OK." Back at the main MAME screen, select the "File" menu and choose "Play Game."

MAME may freeze. When this happens, close all running Windows applications, including the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, which is the leading cause of MAME freezes. Also, due to technological limitations, MAME is not compatible with all arcade games.
