MicroStation is an industry-leading Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) program that uses a comma separated value (CSV) text file as an internal method of storing level information for multiple layer and level drafting files. Excel is an excellent editor for generating comma separated values.

- MicroStation 8i
- Excel 1995 or later
Open in Excel the file you want to import into MicroStation.
Click on the "Office" button. Select "Save As."
Choose "Comma Separated Values" from the file format drop-down in the dialogue box that opens.
Click "Save" to save the file.
Click on the "File" menu. Select "Levels" and choose "Import" from the dialogue box.
Navigate to where you saved the CSV file created earlier. Click "Open" to import the file.
