The Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop has two main video output ports including S-Video and DVI. S-Video is an analogue video connection, while DVI is a digital connection. If you have a newer high-definition television, it will likely be equipped with a DVI video input connection. If you have an older television, you can connect your Dell using the S-Video port, but you'll need to use an S-Video to composite adaptor cable.

Instructions

  1. 1

Shut down your Dell laptop and turn off your television. Wait until the laptop is completely off before connecting any cables.

  2. 2

Plug one end of the video connection cable into your Dell. If you are connecting to an HDTV, use the DVI cable. If you have an older TV, plug the S-Video end of the S-Video to composite adaptor cable into your Dell's S-Video output jack. Both video outputs are located on the back of the Dell laptop.

  3. 3

Connect the opposite end of the video connection cable into your TV. If you are connecting to an HDTV, plug the DVI cable into the television's DVI port. If you are connecting to an older TV, plug the yellow composite cable into the composite input of your TV. These inputs are usually found on the sides or back of your TV.

  4. 4

Connect an audio source from your computer to your TV if you want audio to play through your TV as well. Plug the 3.5mm end of the 3.5mm to RCA cable into your computer's headphone jack. Connect the opposite end into the audio input of your TV.

  5. 5

Turn on both your Dell and your TV. Wait for the Dell to boot.

  6. 6

Change the video input source on your TV while the Dell is booting. Select the input that your computer is plugged into. You can press "Source" or "Input" on your controller to change input sources.

  7. 7

Press "FN" and "F8" on your Dell to display the content of your computer to an external device. Keep pressing these buttons until the video display appears on your TV.
