How to Restore Internet Explorer Back to a Previous Version

Updated March 23, 2017

If you've updated Internet Explorer to the latest version, and find that you are having problems with it or simply do not like it, you can restore the previous version of Internet Explorer. This is performed by uninstalling the latest version of Internet Explorer. You can only restore to a version that you previously had installed. For example, if your computer came with Internet Explorer 7 by default, and you've upgraded to Internet Explorer 8, you will be able to restore Internet Explorer 7.

Click on "Start" in the lower left corner of your desktop, and select "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu.

Click on "Programs," then choose "Programs and Features."

Scroll through the list to find Internet Explorer. Click on Internet Explorer and select "Uninstall." Click "Continue."

Click "Next" at each of the prompts to complete the uninstall procedure. You might need to restart your PC after you are finished. Once Internet Explorer is removed, your system restores the previous version of Internet Explorer.
