How to repair a corrupted MPG file

If your MPG file has become damaged or corrupted, don't feel that your only choice is to delete the file and find another copy of the video. There are plenty of downloadable programs that can successfully repair MPG files back to their previous state. Use programs such as MPEG-Corrector, All Media Fixer and TMPG EC as MPG repair tools.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Download and install either VideoReDo, All Media Fixer or TMPG EC, and open the application by double-clicking the icon on your computer's desktop. If your installation of the program does not automatically add an icon to your desktop, click "Start," "All Programs," and then select the name of the MPG repair application.

    Select the damaged MPG file you wish to repair by clicking either "File" or "Open." Depending on the program, you may have to state the video input file by clicking "Browse" and hitting "Open" when you have located the damaged file.

    Select the output folder for the repaired file by clicking the "Browse" button next to the box indicated "Output Folder."

  4. 4

    Click "Run"or "Fix" to begin repairing the damaged MPG file and replacing it in the new folder directory location. After completion of the repair/rendering process, you will have a watchable copy of your MPG file once again.
