Instructions

  1. 1

Buy a travel adaptor. This attaches to a UK adaptor to enable you to use plugs in other countries. Adaptors labelled US, US and Canada, North America and Universal or Worldwide work in electrical sockets in Canada. Stores such as Tesco, ASDA and Boots sell these adaptors.

  2. 2

Contact your mobile network provider to ask what your package already includes while you are in Canada. Some UK providers work with Canadian providers, so you can automatically make local calls at local rate once you are in Canada.

  3. 3

Check that your provider allows "international roaming," and ask what they charge. This lets you phone the UK from Canada, but the rates may be higher than usual. You may have to add international roaming to your existing package.

When you arrive in Canada, buy a SIM card for a Canadian network such as Bell, Rogers or Telus. Find this in a store of the same name or another electronic retailer.

  3. 3

Buy a package from your Canadian network. Options in Canada usually include paying monthly and paying as you go, as with UK plans.

  4. 4

Replace your UK SIM card with your Canadian SIM card while you are in Canada. Use the phone as you normally would in the UK. Keep your other SIM card in a safe place until you return home.
