Sometimes it may be necessary for a user to restore her Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop computer back to its factory setting or to a previous date. This may be done if a computer contracts a virus or the user simply would like to clear memory from an overfilled hard drive. Restoring a computer can generally be done quickly by pressing "Ctrl-F11" at the laptop start up screen. However, if for some reason this process does not work, there are other ways for a user to restore their PC.

  1. 1

Press "Start" on the lower left corner of your laptop's screen. From there, click on "Help and Support." Wait for the window to appear then select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click "Next."

  2. 2

Click on the date you want to restore your computer to by finding the "1. On this calender, click the bold date" tab and looking under it to see a list of restore points. Locate the "2. On this list, click a restore point" tab usually found directly next to the previous step and choose the restore time you wish to set it back to. "Click Next."

  3. 3

Ensure that the restore point you chose is correct and press the "Next" button. Once the computer restarts, a "Restoration Complete" page on the "System Restore" window will appear and you will need to click "OK."
