The Computer Management tool is a collection of system tools that lets you manage disks and devices, view event logs, schedule tasks and perform other useful computer-related functions. The program even has a "Services and Application" panel that lets you start and stop Windows services. Access the Computer Management tool from the Windows "Start" menu, or save time by creating a shortcut to the program and placing it on your desktop.

    Right click your desktop and select "New" to display a drop-down menu of options.

    Select "Shortcut." The "Create Shortcut" window will open and display a text box. Paste the following into the text box:


    This command runs the Computer Management utility.

    Click "Next" and enter a name for the shortcut in the text box provided. Click "Finish." Windows will close the window and display the shortcut on the desktop.

    Right click the shortcut and select "Properties." The "Properties" window will open.

    Click "Advanced" and put a check mark next to "Run as Administrator." Click "OK" to close the window.

Tips and warnings

  • Right click the shortcut, select "Properties" and click "Change Icon" to change the image that shortcut icon displays.
