A PS2 game disc can be copied so that the backup can be played while the original is put away for safekeeping. A backup of a PS2 disc can not be placed on a single-layer DVD-R disc unless it has been compressed first. There are a number of free to try out DVD copy programs that will both copy the PS2 game disc to the PC's hard drive as well as compress the size so it can be burnt later to the smaller capacity single-layer DVD-R disc. These programs are designed to copy PC-based discs but work in an identical fashion when a PS2 game disc is used instead.
