A DVD region code determines the location a disc is marketed for. The region code for the United States is one. This means you need to have a region one DVD player to watch discs sold in the United States. On most DVD devices, you are allowed to change the region code a limited number of times. If you have a Sony Vaio with an AW-G540A DVD drive, you can change the region code to suite the type of discs you typically watch. The region code can be changed from within the device properties in Windows.
