How to Enable WebDAV on IIS 6
Configure your web server to allow mapping to IIS shared drives. (computer image by blaine stiger from

WebDAV is a protocol that allows users to connect to shared drives over the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) system. The Internet Information Services (IIS) utility has WebDAV installed, but it is disabled by default. Therefore, if the administrator wants to allow network users to map to network drives using HTTP, he must enable the WebDAV protocol first. This is a quick set-up in your IIS system manager.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Administrative Tools." Click "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager" to open your console.

  2. 2

Click the "Web Services Extensions" on the left side of the IIS console window. This lists all your server components and services. Right-click the "WebDAV" service and select "Properties."

  3. 3

Select "Automatic" in the "Startup Type" drop-down box in the main "General" tab. Click the "Start" button to start the service on your machine. The "Startup Type" configuration starts the service each time you boot your computer. Click "OK" to save your changes and close the configuration window.
